30th march 2023 / Letter 388 |
Whether it's Picasso, whose genius is indisputable, my framer or my new or longtime friends, they all have one undeniable point in common: their talent ! All those I'm talking about in this letter also had the good idea to have some hot news this week ! So let me tell you... |

It's simple : there is no uninteresting Picasso exhibition... That of the Musée de l'Homme at the Trocadéro links Picasso's work and prehistory and, as always, we discover things never seen before. The work of this brilliant Iberian seems limitless. I particularly liked the small engraved pebbles where with three lines we recognise the work of the master. It is also an opportunity to visit this museum whose collection is heterogeneous.

This is a profession that I love : that of framer, because they generally have the talent to make a painting, a drawing, a photo even more beautiful... It is also a way of keeping and exhibiting something like a letter, for example. You can obviously put them between two panes to show it front & back. But at Baxter, 15 rue du Dragon, I discovered the other day some clever wooden frame holders, sorts of ridged easels on which you can put a glass frame and handle it easily. Smart ! I often bring things to have them framed with simple kraft paper and it is always a joyful surprise. My advice : have the children draw in black or bistre charcoal on kraft paper, adding chalk, frame them and there you go : you’ll have masterpieces !

Vivre la Campagne published by La Martinière is a little gem. I know the author, she is a journalist and a food stylist who makes the most beautiful bouquets of flowers in the world, she lives in Perche with her companion José Esteves (who took the photos for the book) and both have a passion for cooking. It is a book of cooking recipes but also a book of decoration, art of living, photos and beyond everything we see the world of Monique (Mona for the intimate) which is so special, where all everyday objects are beautiful, often second-hand. Their house is a kind of little paradise near the forest of Bellême, an old village school renovated where Mona and José receive their friends and grandchildren, who are so beautiful, whom we can see in the book. It was my friend Zana who introduced them to me and as she is my culinary reference, I am delighted to discover this clan of connoisseurs. Now, thanks to this book, you too will know them. Needless to say, it's a perfect gift : both subtle and refined ! |

This is such an obvious collaboration that one wonders why it was not done sooner : Marin Montagut designed products inspired by the Café de Flore : glasses, teapots, plates, trays or scarves painted with watercolour in Marin Montagut ‘s now very recognisable style of and will drive Emily in Paris fans crazy as they queue up in red berets in front of the mythical café. This collection is on sale on the Internet, but also in the Marin boutique, 48 rue Madame, so that some of you can discover it as well as all the other products of the brand. Another great place for gifts !

Here is someone I first admired for her beauty - she is breathtakingly pretty, extremely elegant with a youthful and cute smile - and then, I met her, we became friends and I discovered and admired her intelligence and kindness. I follow her on Instagram where she has several accounts : a personal one, and one for her reading. Indeed, Liya Kebede, in addition to being a star, is a great reader, loves to recommend books or ask the people she meets about their favourite readings. This year, she invented a leather bag to carry her books, which comes in all colours. It's sold on the internet and I thought it might be ideal for carrying a picnic blanket. In any case, when you love, you always find a use for it !

To present her new bag to the press and her friends, Liya Kebede chose an absolutely charming tea room that I discovered on occasion and where I feel I will spend my life : Maison Fleuret, at 30 rue des Holy Fathers. The walls are covered with books from the NRF white collection, it's very small but with a mezzanine and a few tables. The homemade cakes are exquisite and there is a multitude of teas, matchas, cappuccinos, lattes as you like them.

The list of talented people I admire is long... so next week I'll also tell you about a really talented jewellery designer. But I will also talk about my last shopping trip at Monop... yes, yes, I know, I spend my life there ! I wish you a very good week and I look forward to seeing you next Thursday !
