La lettre d'Ines - Bonjour
21 march 2024 / Letter 439
This week, I’m taking you to different places : a fair, a legendary boutique, another magnificent one and a website for an object that is both beautiful and functional. Come on, here we go !

There’s a new design fair in Paris called Matter & Shape. It’s in the Tuileries gardens, lasts only a few days, but will most probably be back every year because the choice of brands and designers is amazing. Coming from all over the world, there are clearly many talented artists when it comes to creating furniture, lighting, glassware or table objects. My favourite stand was that of Delfina Delettrez with her everyday objects made in silver metal, all full of humour and pretty : a tea bag, an ice cream cone, a spoon from a small iced pot, a mug and its lid ... A very cheerful idea to make trivial objects precious !

The other day, I went to lunch with Maurice Renoma. For me the Renoma brand is just legendary ! In the 1960s, all the stars visited the boutique on rue de la Pompe : Serge Gainsbourg, John Lennon, Jacques Dutronc (who quotes the brand in one of his songs) and even Bob Dylan. Those known as ‘les minets du drugstore’ found their uniform there. So it was fun to go back there, just opposite the Jeanson de Sailly high school and the famous Lamartine bookstore, to see this place that still exists. A lovely mess where we find suits, sweaters, hats, t-shirts as well as photos and furniture created by Maurice Renoma. The team is just like the boss: very friendly !

But what drove me crazy was discovering all the archives and souvenirs on display, among other things, in the basement of the boutique including photos of all these celebrities, John Lennon’s velvet-print jacket, leather patchwork coats, colourful prints, funny ties and shoes, and also furniture and objects from the ’60s, a whole extravagant, joyful & creative era.

Maurice Renoma, although looking towards the future and very active in the present, doesn’t fully realise the treasure he owns. He is very modest, but he deserves a major exhibition at the Musée Galliera. Yves Saint-Laurent himself said he only dressed at Renoma, now that’s what I call a good ambassador ! In any case, young stylists or fashion students would be fascinated by so much freedom and the whole Renoma atmosphere, it was a real joy for me to discover it all.

It’s next to my office, but I didn’t realise that the brand Comme des garçons had a huge new store. The architecture is magnificent, it’s gigantic, over 3 floors and there are lots of things at all prices. After admiring the metal steps, the units with shelves and the large fitting rooms, I eyed the blue striped shirts, or the red ones for men and the t-shirts... But I particularly liked the leather goods. Small bags that look like old purses but with shoulder straps, neat rectangular bags and also a whole range of absolutely lovely small leather goods. Japanese people definitely have a lot of talent!

We always need a stepladder but often have no room to store it. This one is definitely beautiful ! Useful and aesthetic seem to be Perigot's motto' ! The Lucano (as it is called) is precisely described as so light that it can be carried with two fingers, yet it is no less stable and reassuring. And it stands up on its own even folded ! Functionality reduced to the essentials. And I say : ‘Bravo Périgot !'.

Next week, I’ll tell you about the Malle W. Trousseau, some marvellous kitchen instruments also available at Perigot. In the meantime, I wish you a very good week and look forward to seeing you next Thursday.
Merci - Mille baisers - Ines
