La lettre d'Ines - Bonjour
30 november 2023 / Letter 423
I hear it’s becoming very trendy, and that’s understandable: Menorca is not far (about an hour and a half by plane from Paris), the flights are direct, the weather is generally good and the island is surprisingly protected. A three-day-long weekend and you will have time to visit lots of things because it’s not huge, and even if you don’t have much time, it’s worth it. So why not plan a little trip now for the long weekends in spring ? In this new letter, here is what I’ve spotted for you…
The Torre Villa Fontenille is part of a small group of wonderful hotels that always respect the style and culture of the place where they are located. I already knew about the seaside in Marseille, but this one particularly charmed me. The beauty of the old building, but also the beautiful simplicity of the decoration, luxurious but not ostentatious, the kindness of the employees : I was immediately blown away.

The landscape in Menorca is superb : mainly olive trees and fields separated by dry stone walls, no ugly houses and even the most touristy places are quite pretty. My favourite part is the beaches. Some are huge with sand and transparent blue water, others are very small but lined with pine trees, and some others are wild and isolated.

Can’t wait for spring !
There are 2 towns in Menorca : one in the south and one in the north. The one in the south is called Mahón (where mayonnaise was invented, yes, yes…). At times, it reminds you of some places in Games of Thrones and you can immediately sense its great historical past. Unfortunately, there’s no Cartoville yet for this town, but Le Petit Futé will explain it all to you very well. Hmm … a new form of journalism !

A walk in the streets
In the north of the island, I think the town of Ciutadella is my favourite. Just walk around and you’ll be amazed by the buildings, the small streets and the port which is in a way reminiscent of that of Bonifacio.

The S'Amarador restaurant is on the port of Ciutadella, you don’t need to book because it’s quite large. Some French people I met in the city told me it was the best place. Thank you kind anonymous people, it was indeed very good ! I discovered by chance a nice bakery/tea room in Mahón, Santo Cristo. You can sit inside but also in the street where tables are set up. They sell ensaïmadas, a sweet Majorcan speciality made with puff pastry, water, flour, eggs and lard.

And others
Intrigued by the front door on a pretty little street in Ciutadella, I entered this sumptuous hotell. It’s crazy how much nerve I’ve got just to write you this letter ! Actually, no one made any comments to me and while crossing the garden, I found another door so I could sneak out discreetly. In any case, it was magnificent !
Tempting, right ?

Another hotel spotted, but this time in the south of the island in Mahón, the Cristine Bedfor, a slightly English style, very ‘cosy’, pleasant and comfortable and located in the centre of the city.

Well, all we have to do now is wait patiently for spring to fly to this paradise island … till then, next week I’ll tell you about a lovely collab, some lingerie and a whole bunch of other essential things ! I wish you a very good week and I look forward to seeing you next Thursday.
Merci - Mille baisers - Ines
