April 4 2024 / Letter 441
|
When I try and describe the content of my letters, I often say that I recommend a brand that I’ve spotted, some pretty accessories, a book I loved though not it’s necessarily recent, an exhibition I liked … well, this letter is the perfect example !

For those who love cooking, utensils are an absolute priority. It’s true that, personally, I’d be more inclined to choose a pretty little
pink saucepan rather than an ugly but quality stewpot. And yet, there’s nothing more exasperating than having a knife that won’t cut or a cloth that won’t wipe… Well, the W. Trousseau Trunk’s quality is to combine utility with pleasure. It’s therefore a selection of objects that are always smart, practical, refined and efficient. On the
Périgot website, you can find the entire range and even
the complete trunk, which is certainly worth its weight in gold, but is quite sublime.

I like brands that span the decades, it shows a certain truth and intelligence in the way they are run. I also like out-of-fashion products that go surprisingly well with different trends. And finally, I believe that we must fight against the systematic wearing of sneakers. All this to say that I absolutely love the Richelieus for women made by Olivier Saillard at Weston. An investment for life, but also for your feet that will be well supported.

Here’s an exhibition not to be missed : that of
Paolo Roversi at
the Palais Galliera. Even if you are not much interested in fashion, he is a great contemporary artist. Everything is breathtaking, sensitive, poetic, powerful. Roversi is a researcher who experimented with multiple techniques, but still has a style. Each photo is a novel, evoking the past while being perfectly innovative. Nicknamed ‘Polaroid’ for having made many large format Polaroids. One of the photos shows a wall in his studio with all those he took during a session with Natalia Vodianova, and each one is a masterpiece. Unsatisfied and brilliant ! Run to see this exhibition !

I’d been wanting to read Laure Murat's Proust, roman familial for some time, I had heard great things about it. And it was awarded the Médicis Essai prize last November, so I’m a little ashamed to tell you about it just now, but in any case it is indeed amazing. Laure Murat describes the environment of his childhood, his education, the relationship with his parents and by reading Proust she seems to better understand his family and the aristocratic Parisian milieu. And she really did read Proust, so much so that she adores him and makes you want to go further than Du côté de chez Swann ! In her research, she finds, finds again and we understand why he is a monument in literature. I must add that it is admirably well written. I couldn’t find the author on social networks cause I wanted to tell her that an Ines (her mother’s first name) thought she was wonderful. She lives in Los Angeles, teaches at UCLA and she’s part Argentinian. Well, I know these details won’t necessarily make you want to read it, but as usual : trust me !

Speaking of Proust, I also highly recommend
Le monde de Proust vu par
Paul Nadar, published by
Editions du Patrimoine. It includes photos of those who inspired him, his family, but also his friends. It’s beautiful and fun, although it’s always better to imagine the characters in the novels while reading them. But after Laure Murat’s book, it’s still fun.

In
the March box, you’ll find a small
Bindi Atelier cotton bandana that you can tie in your hair, around your neck or use as a little tablemat … well, you will see, it has lots of uses. There is also a little bracelet from
Ioel Paris, simple just the way I like it. It is gilded with fine gold with a little khaki cord, of course ! Finally, I added an
Edulis night cream to restore your healthy glow while waiting for the first sunny days. I sincerely hope you like all of this.

Next week, I’ll be offering you a themed letter, yes but which one ? Well, let’s say it’s a theme that inspired Pharell Williams for his latest collection or Beyoncé for her latest song… Got it ?! Okay, you’ve got a week to figure it out. See you next Thursday !
