This week as promised, I am talking about Italian pyjamas, but also menswear (yes I know, it’s rare, but I’m trying to think about it), beautiful packaging (yes I know, it is an obsession…) and jewellery discovered thanks to Pablo Picasso. Nice program, right?

Schostal, which was founded in 1870, in the heart of the city of Rome, had among its first clients the Nobel Prize winner Luigi Pirandello … and the Italian royal family, newly settled in Rome, made it its official supplier. Though the store closed its doors during the dictatorship, because of the Jewish origins of its founders, its reopening in 1945 caused such a crowd that the police had to intervene. Today, the brand is still in the hands of the family, and has lost none of its authentic charm. Schostal is famous in Italy for its socks and pyjamas. Its credo is that elegance is not just for outdoors… and it applies to both the home and the city. It is not unusual to come across Romans, dressed in these pyjamas, in the street or at the café. The models, in cotton, flannel or linen, come in simple and elegant cuts that are suitable for women as well as men, parents and children. All entirely made in Italy! The Schostal boutique still exists, an island of Roman spirit on Via della Fontanella Borghese, a stone’s throw from the Piazza di Spagna. You can admire the original woodwork and meet its loyal customers, from Wes Anderson to Kim Jones and Léa Seydoux. But there’s no longer any need to jump on a plane to get your hands on those precious pyjamas. You can now order them online from France… And I hope that one day, you will also find them in my boutique, rue de Grenelle.

Maison Gabriel, a men’s boutique I’ve already told you about, had the brilliant idea of reissuing clothes from André Malraux’s wardrobe, excellent choice ! The owner’s father actually worked with him. In addition to the clothes, his pair of glasses have been redesigned; everything is presented in a room decorated with photo prints of André Malraux belonging to his family. The opportunity for me to admire gorgeous peacoats, sweaters (but here, the inspiration was more Captain Haddock), 'Gabriel' suits which will look great on my Denis, but also a Weston collaboration that will be perfect for my little brushes (feet in slang).

Here is a brand, Byredo, that takes care of its packaging… so in my crusade against manufacturers who do horrible things, I wanted to show you an example because, in the end, it’s not that complicated to make things beautiful! Today luxury is simple, so please, a little effort!

The same goes for Violette_fr products (no relation to my daughter!), the packaging is simple and refined. They even did a collab with Holidermie, a bath milk, which packaging could easily win this letter’s most beautiful packaging award!

New exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum: Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso. This museum seems to be a guarantee of good exhibitions. There, I was particularly fascinated by Picasso’s small wooden or cardboard constructions. It’s amazing to discover new works by this great artist throughout one’s life… And Gertrude Stein’s eye and choices are obviously incredible, I had fun looking at the dates of the works of art and there, it’s simply astonishing!

Still at the Luxembourg Museum, but at the bookstore, I was charmed by these scoubidou jewels by Samuel Coraux. We can call it haute jewellery! Well, the prices are slightly more affordable than Place Vendôme: €24 for a ring and to hell with greed!

Sublime, right? |

So I don’t know if it was my scoubidou ring that set things off, but next week, I’ll be taking you to Smallable, an illustrious children’s boutique and I will show you my new watch, worthy of the most precious of children’s timepieces… perhaps it is also my new status as a grandmother by marriage that’s causing this joyful regression ?! I wish you a very good week and I look forward to seeing you next Thursday.
Cheers!
